Patron looking for realistic fiction centered on coming up in hard situations. Initially recommended "The Skin I'm In" by Sharon Flake, landed on "On the Come Up" by Angie Thomas.
Patron looking for graphic novel "similar to Steven Universe". Recommended Lumberjanes and Jonesy. Patron further requested LGBTQ+ books - mentioned rep in Lumberjanes, and landed on "Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me"
Patron looking for "anything by Voltaire". No primary sources available, so guided patron to the philosophy area of the nonfiction section (DDC 100s). Assisted patron in reviewing indices to locate a title appropriate for her needs.
Patron requesting assistance with research project for ELA class. Walked patron through basic process of formulating a thesis statement from a given topic, navigating through developing research questions and performing pre-research to how to utilize advanced search functions in Gale databases.
Patron requesting non-fiction books on heartbreak. Walked patron to the 306.7 section of Dewey Decimal, following up with an additional search to locate a relevant book of poetry.
Patron requesting books on immigration. Helped patron narrow down needs between the 305 section on migrant communities and the 325 section on social and political attitudes and responses to immigration.
